County Highway 48 Trash Pick-Up
During last summer's annual lake association meeting, members discussed participating in a group effort trash pick-up along both sides of the three mile stretch of County Highway 48 from Candles to 210th St. Trash pick-up along 210th St. and other roads around the lake was discussed but it was decided that residents should try to clean up individual road frontages instead of a group effort. Over the summer, I received very little feedback on whether the association should spend the $200 for 2 signs of recognition, yet still do the work. Interested parties still wanted to do the cleanup as a good will gesture, but not pay the county $200 for the signs. As a result, Lynda Rogers signed a 3 year contract with the county for lake association members to do trash pick-up along County Highway 48 for three years, through the fall of 2010, twice a year, (spring & fall) without paying for recognition signs.
So, during four afternoons in October, groups of lake association members picked up trash along the three mile stretch of County 48. The photos below show participants decked out in high visibility orange vests, purchased by the lake associa- tion. Our second time slot was cut short by a vigorous thunderstorm, so small groups finished the job on two other days, with participants agreeing that there was more trash the farther west we went. Trash pictured was only part of trash picked up each time as some bags were left roadside to be picked up by the designated "hauler". Recyclables were separated from actual trash. However, we could use a few more residents to help with the trash pickup this spring!
